had the pleasure of leading a half-day foraging walk with an incredible group of 23 people, exploring the vibrant woodlands of North Cumbria. It was amazing to see so many of you connect with nature and with each other.
A Day of Discovery and Community
The sun was shining, and the woodland was bursting with life. I loved seeing everyone’s sense of curiosity and adventure as we began our journey. Our focus for the day was on some of the amazing wild edibles that were at their peak in the area. We spent our time learning to identify plants safely and sustainably, making sure we only harvested what we needed and respected the land around us. It’s a skill for life, and it’s a great way to build a unique connection to nature.
What I find so special about these walks is the wonderful atmosphere that is created when so many like-minded people come together. We had a mix of complete beginners and those with a little more experience. It was so lovely to see everyone sharing what they knew and helping each other out. These walks aren’t just about plants; they’re about building a supportive community where we can learn and grow together.
Of course, the walk would not have been complete without some delicious food made from foraged ingredients. At the end of our walk, we all gathered and tried some tasty treats I had prepared from some of the very plants we had learned about during the day. It was so rewarding to see everyone enjoy the incredible flavours of the wild and to understand how easy it is to bring these amazing ingredients into our own kitchens.
