But what if some of the most useful\, nutritious\, and even medicinal plants around are ones you already walk past every day\, in your garden\, your yard\, the verge outside your door? They are\, and that’s the knowledge Bex wants to share with you. \nJoin Bex Northman\, Association of Foragers member\, for a two-hour introduction to backyard foraging at Tarn Road Nurseries. You’ll learn to recognise the “weeds” and familiar plants already growing around you\, understand what makes them worth picking\, and leave with the confidence to look at your own garden differently. \nWhat You’ll Learn\n\nHow to identify common garden and hedgerow plants such as nettle\, dandelion\, plantain\, cleavers\, chickweed\, and early-autumn hedgerow fruits like elderberries\, blackberries\, and rosehips (exact plants on the day depend on what’s growing. Bex will point out whatever’s ready)\nThe nutritional\, culinary\, and traditional medicinal uses of each plant\nThe folklore and history behind plants you’ve likely never looked at twice\nA simple safety framework for identifying plants confidently and foraging responsibly\, even as a complete beginner\n\nWhat’s Included\n\nExpert\, hands-on guidance from Bex Northman throughout\nTasting opportunities where safe to do so\n\nPractical Details\nSuitable for: Complete beginners. No experience or prior knowledge needed. Spaces: Limited to 20\, to keep the session hands-on and personal. What to bring: Weather-appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for a nursery garden setting; a notebook if you like to take notes (not required). Accessibility: Gentle walking around the nursery grounds. Contact us in advance with any specific accessibility questions. Weather: Outdoor sessions are weather-dependent. If conditions mean the session can’t go ahead safely\, you’ll be contacted directly with clear rebooking options. \nBook Your Spot\nBook by 4th September to save £5: £20 early bird\, £25 standard after. Only 20 spaces available to keep the group small and hands-on. \n\nA note on safety: this session teaches identification and traditional culinary and folk use of common plants. Wild and Weeds does not provide medical advice\, and Bex is not a medical herbalist. Always be certain of a plant’s identification before eating or using it\, and take responsibility for how you use anything foraged.
